YWCA, the Nebraska
Commission on the Status of Women, the Lincoln-Lancaster
Women's
Commission, the League
of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County and the Angels
Theatre Company are collaborating to offer the following Equality
Day (more information) activities:
- 3:00-4:00 - The Woman of Distinction Award
presented by the Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women
and Governor Dave Heineman. (Nebraska Capital - 2nd
Floor Rotunda)
- 4:30-5:30 - What's Unique about the Suffrage Movement
in Nebraska? Presentation and discussion of Nebraska's
participation in the struggle for women's right to vote
by UNL scholars Whitney Douglas and Eric Turley. (YWCA
Lincoln, 1432 N Street)
- "Equality Dinner" available at IronWorks
Restaurant (301 N. 8th St.). Call the
restaurant at (402) 435-5477 for reservations. A special
menu has been created for our group! Special event parking
is available for $2 in the Haymarket
Garage (9th and Q St.)
- Pre-show - Informational Displays focusing
on the national and regional suffrage movement and representatives
from the collaborating organizations will greet the audience
at the Loft at the
Mill (8th and P St. - 3rd floor)
- 7:30 - The Fighting
Days by Wendy
Lill, presented by the Angels Theatre Company. $15.00
general admission, $7 student/seniors. (Loft
at the Mill - 8th and P St. - 3rd floor)
- Post-show - A panel discussion on Women and the
Civic Reponsibility of Voting. Esteemed panel members
include:
- Bonnie Coffey: Lincoln-Lancaster Women's
Commission
- Bobbie Kierstead: Planned Parenthood Voters For Choice
- Sandy Powell: State President League of Women Voters
- Dr. Anna Shavers: UNL Professor of Law
